Hood Canal and other sights……

As I mentioned in a previous blog, our friends, Mike and Elaine, are here for a visit before moving on eastward. On Sunday the four of us headed out for an adventure and to see the sights around Hood Canal.

We headed south on I 5 and then onto Hwy 16, over the Narrows Bridge (remember Galloping Gertie?), on through the scenic countryside to the Hood Canal Bridge. Now we are on the Olympic Peninsula!!!!

We decided to visit the Evergreen Coho SKP Co-op park in Chimacum, WA, IMG_5737which is a “sister” to our Lone Star Corral in Hondo, TX. We introduced ourselves to the very friendly manager and she gave us a map and permission to tour the park. It is a beautifully maintained park with very friendly residents and we who greeted by everyone we encountered.

We were even offered freshly baked cookies by a lady baking in the kitchen, filling the clubhouse with the most luscious scents!!!!

After visiting the park we headed to Port Townsend as I wanted to show Mike and Elaine the wonderful Victorian houses there. However, we did not realize that the Rhododendron Festival was happening that day and the entire town was blocked off for a parade.

So we jumped on a ferry and crossed Admiralty Inlet to Whidbey Island where we continued our adventure.

We made a stop at Fort Casey, which is one of three forts that were built to protect the entrance to Hood Canal during WWII.

After a late lunch at Applebee’s in Oak Harbor, we headed north over Deception Pass Bridge, onto Fidalgo Island, then through Mount Vernon to I5.

We made a stop in Stanwood for ice cream at DQ where I found the “Uff Da Shoppe”……yep, you guessed it, the Norwegian found a Norwegian shop!!! Best of all I found the most wonderful lefse in this shop, and I ate it all myself as no one in my house likes it, thank goodness!!!!

Then it was home again to Ravensdale. It was a fun day of adventuring with Mile and Elaine, thanks guys for a great time.

Here are a few pictures I took during our adventure.
