Here are a few of our neighbors (besides alligators) here at Okenfenokee NWR as well as a few of the beautiful flowers that are in bloom now.
A constant neighbor is the raccoon…..
These little guys are everywhere, they are Anoles (pr:an-o-lee) When looking for a girlfriend they are bright green and puff out their bright orange throats. But when threatened or challenged for territory they turn brown and raise their ‘hackles’!
They are only about 4” long from end of long tail to nose.
One is challenging the other for territory, note the ‘hackles’ on the back. This is great entertainment in the early morning at the Homestead while waiting for visitors to arrive.
Skink checking out the cavities in the tree.
I think this is called a ‘Wild Amaryllis”
New growth on a Long Leaf Pine shoot.
Fragrant Lilies are blooming all around the swamp.
Sorry, I have no name…..just thought it was pretty.
Flowers of the Hooded Pitcher Plant. These beautiful, graceful plants are carnivorous!!
The purple variety of Pitcher Plant.
Here’s Bill getting a big ‘gator kiss’ from one of his friends!!
It’s getting very warm here now, and very, very humid. We have only one more month here to get more pictures and to enjoy the beauty of Okefenokee Swamp!!!
Just Us Kids………enjoying nature at it’s finest!!!
