Just Another Day………..

OK….so we picked up the “repaired” awning from the guy in St. Mary’s, GA who specializes in sails, awnings, etc. He did a super job of re-sewing all the seams and making it as good as new!!! Now we have to find someone to help us reinstall it on the coach!

We are still busy here at Okefenokee NWR with lots of school groups visiting the swamp as well as other events. We just finished a Forestry Field Day with over 350 FFA and 4H kids visiting all the displays and getting a first-hand view of what is involved with a career in forestry. Earth Day is our next big event on Saturday, which includes Solar Car Races!!!

The weather is really warming up fast, but this is SE Georgia and it is only Spring! Of course, with the warming temperatures come the mosquitoes and deer flies! We keep bug repellant and Benadryl in our back packs always!!!!

Some of the other volunteers have already left and we have only another month and a half before we also leave for the summer. Even the interns will be leaving at the end of the April, then it will be very quiet around here in the Volunteer Village.

Here a few shots I took the other day while out on roving duty. Roving duty involves riding around all day in an electric cart, talking to visitors and pointing out critters and other interesting sights on Swamp Island Drive. I know…….its a tough job but……..well you know!

This looks like a gigantic reptile climbing over a building!!!   IMG_2190 But its just a 4” Skink (lizard) on the porch at the Homestead

Bill just said I should take a picture of our electric carts so you can see how we travel around on the refuge. Good idea…..I'll do it in the morning!! Maybe I will include some shots of the places we work and what is involved in being a volunteer.

Just Us Kids…………….playing in the Swamp!!!
