On Monday, June 28th we took yet another boat ride!!! This time it was the Resurrection Bay Wildlife Tour out of Seward which included a lunch stop on Fox Island.
We departed the dock at noon and headed out through the fjords to Fox Island in Resurrection Bay.
Beautiful mountains and glaciers…….everywhere!!!
Interesting rock formation………..
We have certainly become the intrepid sailors!!!
Lunch on Fox Island was prime rib and salmon with all the trimmings. These Alaskans certainly know how to put on a feed!!
After lunch we took a walk on the beach………….then it was back on the boat to search for wildlife!
First was an eagle soaring above us.
Then suddenly a humpback whale surfaced right beside the boat……
……and then he was gone!!
Horned Puffins……
Kittiwakes on the rocky shores……..
Kittiwakes feeding on a “ball of fish”…….
Stellar seals sunning themselves on the rocks…..
The fjord trip was a great success and the weather was just perfect!! We would recommend it to anyone visiting the Kenai Peninsula.
We arrived back at the dock at 4:30 PM and decided to make a stop at the Exit Glacier before going back to the motor home.
We hiked the 1+ mile trail up to the glacier and standing up next to it the temperature dropped dramatically as the wind flowed over (and under) the ice.
Note the colors in the ice, especially the blues!
The hike was a good way to end a good day of sightseeing in Alaska.
As always I just have to shoot all the wildflowers. This is lupine which is blooming everywhere right now!!!
In the morning we left the Kenai Peninsula and drove to Palmer to spend some more time with our friends there.
Still more adventures to come so stay tuned………
Just Us Kids……!!!!
