After spending some more time in Anchorage and surrounding area, we readied ourselves to head southward to the Kenai Peninsula. Just before we left we got a call from some “roadie” friends to tell us they were in Soldotna which would be on our way. So off we were to see more sights and visit with friends.
It is a beautiful drive along the coastline of Turnagain Arm.
We met up with Del and Karol ( Ohio) in the Fred Meyer parking lot in Soldota where you can stay 3 nights for free!!! Yay!!
Del, Karol and their friends, Larry and Jan (Missouri) had been fishing for a couple of days so we provided the grill and coleslaw, they provided the salmon and halibut, and we had a fantastic fish fry in the parking lot at Fred Meyer!!!
Bill manning the grill, while Larry and Del offered advise!
Del and Karol checking out the fish!
After dinner we all went to McDonald’s for an ice cream and took advantage of their free WiFi!
We said our farewells on Sunday morning and we headed for Homer to see the infamous Spit!
From this distance it looks quiet and serene……..not!!
When we got there it was pouring rain and it was wall to wall people, cars and hundreds of RV’s with nary a spot to park.
So we snapped a few pictures through the windshield and decided to head back to up the road to Seward instead.
Now doesn’t this make you want to stop for an ice cream?
Now Seward turned out to be a surprise!! It is a great little town on the water with a lot less traffic!!! But we were told it is “party central” on the 4th of July, so we got here just in time.
We got a space the Seward AF RV Park and set out to visit the town. The rain had let up but we took our raincoats along……just in case!
And they had espresso too………….yummy!!!
This place is called “The Train Wreck”!
We decided Seward was a place to spend some time so we booked a 5-hour Kenai Fjords Wildlife Cruise for the next morning!!
More on that next time……………….stay tuned!
Just us Kids……eating ice cream and drinking lattes!!!!
