We are still in Hondo, TX visiting with all our friends here and generally resting up before moving to Aransas NWR to start our next volunteer job.
We finally have the coach and the car both repaired as good as new and do not have to make the run into San Antonio as often, so now it is time to relax…………ha!!!
On November 11th, Veteran’s Day, we had a ceremony here in the park to honor all the veterans living here and it turned out to be a very moving event.
In addition to a Color Guard from the Hondo branch of the Texas National Guard and representatives of the Hondo VFW, we were entertained with music by the D’Hanis, TX High School band. Followed by a “fly-over” by the local chapter of the Commemorative Air Force (they restore flyable warplanes of the past).
One of this group of planes “broke out” of formation symbolizing the “missing man”, as a young trumpeter from the D’Hanis High School band played Taps.
Then we all adjourned indoors for cake and other goodies baked and supplied by the ladies of the park.
Bill didn’t bake anything, he was there with Beverly Pissimenti and Barbara Hill to eat the goodies!
And more entertainment supplied by Ron Erkert and Dick Platt.
All in all it was a great celebration and a time to honor all our veterans and those who are currently serving in all branches of the military, for without them we not have the freedom that we all to often take for granted.
