We go to the commissary and exchange at Fort Huachuca (pr: wa-chew-ca) often while we are here in Benson, AZ, but yesterday we took the time to find and tour the museum. It is a very interesting place, situated on the border with Mexico and is now a training base for military intelligence.
It was established in 1877 as a post for cavalry soldiers to protect settlers from Indian attacks. Later was established as a Pony Soldier post, with an African-American regiment, then as an intelligence training base which it is today.
There are many interesting exhibits in 3 different building and is a great history of the area and how it was tamed.
There are also many great artworks on display, here are but a few:
Bill found a new friend……….he wouldn’t tell us his name but I think it is Kawlayja (sp?) of the musical fame!!!
