Today was a maintenance day for us, cleaning the coach, haircuts, etc. While Bill was cutting my hair outside on the patio, he casually mentioned that we have a new neighbor and I said, "Really, who?" To which he, again casually, replied, "Turn around and look!" There near the rear tires on the coach was snake about 12" long!!!

I went to get a container for it and to call Daphne, the raptor and snake ranger, while Bill corralled it with the broom. At one point it coiled and struck at him, but Bill was a brooms-length away from it. Now understand that we know nothing about snakes, so to us they are all venomous and we take great care to stay away from them. But I did get close enough to drop a plastic container over it till Daphne got here to ID it!
Daphne immediately recognized it as a copperhead baby, and, yes, they are venomous!!! This one is about a month old and probably has siblings!!! (Not what I wanted to hear!!!) As it was about 12" long and the tip of it's tail is lemon-lime yellow means that it was probably born about a month ago. Yes, born, copperhead snakes are born live, not from eggs as some other snakes.

Small....note the ant!
We studied it for a while before Daphne left to find a much better place for the snake to live!!!! Then after she left I realize that I was so fascinated by the snake that I forgot to get picture of it! Duh!!!! So these pix are from the internet just for you can see what caused the excitement!

Note the yellow tail!

Oh wow, you have to watch out with baby snakes. Isn't their venom stronger than adult snakes? Or is that spiders.... Humm. So where was your camera? Don't you have it hanging around your wrist at ALL times?
