Remember last spring when our “Texas Room” was delivered?
Basically it was a 12’ x 24’ shell which we had planned to finish ourselves into 2 rooms…..a shop for Bill and a craft/sitting room for me.
Well, over the summer while we were visiting the kids in Seattle area we decided that we did not want to do all that work ourselves. Hey….we’re retired and that just sounded like way too much work!
You may also remember that I played around with the idea of a dry creek bed running from the street into our “gravel” yard…..well before we left for the summer I planted some agave and other cacti, hoping they would make it through the hot Texas summer.
Not only did they survive, they actually grew some……not too bad for a gal with 2 brown thumbs!!!!
We contracted with Denny of D&D Mobile to finish it for us and he started the job on September 12th and was done a week later!!! Yay! (It would have taken us all winter!) We saved the painting to do ourselves, but should have him do that too!!!
This is what the interior was before Denny arrived……..just one big room!
The first day was wiring and electrical panel…..however Denny only does the “interior” electrical, so Bill had to dig the ditch in the hard Texas soil from the building to the power pole. It is very hot here in early September…..so it was not an easy job!!!! But he persevered and got the job done!
The second day was insulation, walls, and the all important…air conditioners!
The next couple of days was trimming and all the little final details……then we spent several days painting my side of the building.
Here is the result……
It still needs tile on the floor and blinds on the windows to keep the Texas sun out, but I finally have a place for my sewing machine, serger, and a big table for layout and cutting, as well as a desk for all our files, etc.. Not shown is a floor to ceiling rack in the corner for all my fabrics and notions. Can’t wait to start making quilts!!!!
Next is Bill’s shop…..he has started on the workbench, it just needs a top now!
When we were at the paint store, Bill found a half-price paint shelf and has decided that his shop will be the most colorful shop ever. Will post pix when it’s done!!!
Keep in mind that we have been on the road for over 9 years, carrying everything with us in our motorhome. The remainder of our belongings were in storage in Idaho, our last home. So this year we brought everything from storage in a rental truck, caravan-style with Bill in the motorhome and me in the truck, and thanks to a wonderful neighbor, we put all our belongs in their building until ours was completed.
The few other things we had in our building had to be moved out to make room for the carpenters! Yep, there they are under the tarp next to the motorhome!!!!! Just proves that “where there is a will, there is a way”!
Next, after finishing Bill’s shop, we start building the 9’ x 24’ porch on the front of the building.
Hmmmmm…….I wonder when I will have time (or energy) to do any quilting!!
