Rain, rain go away…come again some other day!!!’
Yes, it is still raining here in the Pacific NW and we are very tired of it. Wishing we could sent some of this rain to our “winter” home in Texas where it is so badly needed and bundle up some of their sunshine to send up here!!! Oh well, just dreaming because Mother Nature will do whatever she wants!!!!
But in spite of the rain we are finding fun things to do. Last Sunday we took a drive north to Arlington, WA to check out Jim Creek Naval Radio Station and Recreation Area.
The radio station is staffed by only 2 Navy personnel now, but in the 50’s and early 60’s it was really busy place. The surrounding mountains are lined with towers and running across the valley
between are the antenna lines….this system is powerful enough to send signals to ships all around the world and also out into space.
Obviously we were not allowed into that area, but a large part of this huge property is set aside as recreation area for our military, active and retired. It is a great area to camp, surrounded by huge pines and the sites are secluded. The RV sites have concrete pads with water and electricity, as well as cabins that are scattered all around the area.
There’s also fishing and boating at Twin Lakes which is accessible up a 5 mile gravel road and the last 3 miles are single lane which makes for some heart-thumping moments when you meet another vehicle. Thank goodness our car is small so we were able to get off the road safely!!!!
But when we finally got to the lake we agreed it was worth the hair-raising drive. So peaceful and quiet, with ospreys and eagle nests in the trees all around the lake. (But they were too far away and too fast for me to get any pictures.) We spent some time just walking around and enjoying the scenery, then we headed back out on the “road from h@%#”.
On the way back home we stopped in Fall City and had an early supper at the Fall City Roadhouse. The food was excellent….Bill had a Rueben sandwich that was so large he couldn’t pick it up, he had to eat it with a fork and knife. He really did not talk too much while eating but he was doing a lot of “ummm” sounds. My chicken cashew salad was over the top and I’m sure happy I only ordered the 1/2 size as I can’t imagine how big a whole salad would have been. The service was great, very attentive without becoming pesty. Then there was dessert!!!! OMG!!!
Bill had Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie and I had Banana Cream Zango!!!
Check out the dessert menu! Read the description of our desserts!! A really nice dining event and we both recommend it to anyone when in the area.
Another totally unplanned day that turned out excellent, filled with adventures and good food………what more could you ask for!!!!
Here are some of the pictures I took along the way……enjoy.
