My dear, sweet husband, Bill, is really a “motorcycle maniac”!!! For as long as I have known him and all our time together we have had motor-cycles…..Harley Davidson’s to be exact!!! Before we retired and took to the road in our motor home we traveled for many years by bike, sometimes towing a trailer. But due to space restrictions we gave up the bikes when we started our retirement adventure.
Our son-in-law, Brad, keeps a bike here just for Dad to ride when we are here for the summer. But when Bill has a chance to ride he is the first one ready with helmet and leathers, revving the engine!!! His chance came on the Saturday before Mother’s Day when the traditional Oregon 500 time/distance ride takes place. So Brad, Dad, along with grandson, Mark, and friend, Jeff, headed out for a “guy adventure”
(Note: remember you can click on pictures to enlarge them.)
In years past, we have participated in this event, so Bill was familiar with how it works…….leave Seattle area on Friday afternoon, ride to just outside Portland, OR (180+- miles) and spend the night in a motel. Up at 3:00 am, quick breakfast, then check in at starting point at 5:00am where you are given directions to the next checkpoint. You ride all day from checkpoint to checkpoint, completing a minimum of 500 miles, checking in at the finish (and start) before 5:00pm! The winner is based on which rider came closest to a pre-determined time for the distance. After the awards ceremony, it was back on the bikes to ride back the 180 miles to Seattle.
Grandson, Mark, ready for a day of hard riding

One more cuppa java! Left to right: Brad, Jeff, Mark, and Bill.
“Pack it up…..times wasting!”
Bill
“OK…let’s get this show on the road!”
They did not qualify for any of the awards, but the purpose of the ride was to have fun, and in that case it was “mission accomplished”!!
Next big ride is to Sturgis, SD in August!!!!
