We have been here in at Lone Star Corral, our winter home, for about 2 weeks now and it has been a busy 2 weeks!!!!
The first few days were occupied with me learning all the duties associated with my position as Treasurer here in the park. I have an accounting background so none of it was difficult, I just had to learn this system. But that is well in hand now!!!
The next event happened when I was making lunch and getting the necessary items from the fridge to make sandwiches and noticed that the light was not on. Further investigation revealed that the cooling unit had DIED!!!! So thanks to our totally excellent RV techs, Murphy and Lisa, the proper parts were ordered and a dorm sized fridge was delivered for temporary use. The estimated cost was $2500 – $2700……..yikes!!! But thanks to an extended warranty policy we only had to pay the $500 deductible…….whew!!! But all is fixed now and we again are ‘cool’!!!!
During that time my laptop also DIED!!! Evidently a virus got it and thoroughly messed it up, so bad that it had to be re-formatted. Once again thanks to the great folks at Castroville Computer in Hondo for the great job they did in saving all my files and cleaning everything up.
So with all that behind us we are planning for the future. We ordered the ‘shed’ for our lot and it will be delivered in about 3 weeks. They are building, painting, and delivering it to our lot, then leveling it and installing the required tie-downs to keep it from blowing away in the Texas winds. The ‘shed’ is 12’x24’ and will have 2 rooms, 8’ x 12’ (or one third) for Bill for his shop and the biggest portion is for my sewing and crafts room! I will finally have a place to store all my fabric and craft supplies instead of under our bed in the coach (and in the closets and any other corner that I find space)! Bill will have his work bench and a place for all his tools and I will have work tables for my sewing machine and all the other crafts that I dabble in. There is also room for a ‘sitting corner’ containing 2 comfy chairs for reading, etc. I will post pictures as it progresses. Here is a picture of the lot without our motorhome on it.
Our motor home will be parked to the right side on the parking strip and the ‘shed’ will be set to the rear of the lot with the 24’ facing out to the street.
You will notice that I have been referring to this building as a ‘shed’, but we have decided that henceforth it will be called “Bill and Kay’s Ranchita” or “The Ranchita” for short. We have referred to our motor coach as “Bill and Kay’s Rolling Ranch House” for years so we thought “The Ranchita” was fitting! What do you think?
That’s all the news from here……stay tuned!
