Last Thursday we packed a lunch, gassed up the car and headed for Mount Rainier. We have made this trip many times in the past, by car and by motorcycle, but there is always something new to see, or just revisit the beauty of the mountain that never changes.
Approaching Enumclaw, WA you can just see the faint outline of the mountain in the early morning overcast.
Entering Mount Rainier National Park
The first good look at the mountain, but still a long drive on curvy mountain roads to get to Paradise Lodge.
We encountered many waterfalls along the way, some right along side the road and some we had to hike into.
This was along the road……..
This is Christine Falls which actually runs under the roadway.
Upper Narada Falls……..
…..Lower Narada Falls.
Glacier path sown the mountain.
Beautiful Mount Rainier from Paradise Visitor’s Center
We stopped for lunch and were joined by “camp robbers”. Totally fearless birds who will eat anything and seemed to have a fondness for our grapes.
Right after Bill snapped this picture of me on the big snow bank I scooped up a big snowball and threw it at him. As soon as I threw it both feet slid out from under me and suddenly I was on my back in the very wet melting snow. Had to make the ride home sitting on a towel to protect the seat from my clumsiness!!!! Oops!!!
Of course, no posting is complete without pictures of wildflowers. There are so many, many wildflowers still blooming on Mount Rainier.
Including this dried weed (?) that I thought was interesting.
All in all it was a great day visiting Mount Rainier again, as it is always worth a return trip.
Soon we will be packing up and leaving the Pacific Northwest and heading back to Texas for the winter. Will report later on a building project we have waiting for us when we get there.
