In South Texas, west of San Antonio and away from the cities, are a lot of ranches and every one of them has a gate. Big ranches, small ranches, and ranch-wanna-be’s all have entrance gates. Some are very, very elaborate and some are very, very humble, but they all have gates.
One day on a trip to Bandera, TX from Hondo, TX, a distance of about 35 miles, we took pictures of all the gates we saw along the route. We thought you would like to see some of them.
Now go back through the pictures of the gates……you will note one thing is missing in all of them.
That’s right, you can’t see any houses!!! Usually the ranches are so big that you can’t see the house from the road.
Now some pictures of Bandera, a true old west Texas town.
County Courthouse Blue Gene’s Dance Hall
A fun store full of “Bling”!
The following were found on a back-street of Bandera.
Old building with modern touch……note the satellite dish!
Many of the original buildings in this area were built of local limestone.
Just a brief glimpse of the place we call home in the winter.
I found a great book in our library here, called “Cowboy Wisdom”'. It’s full of great bits of common sense, such as:
“You’re never too old to teach or too young to learn!”
Just Us Kids………….drivin’ down Texas back roads.
