Spooky!

We are currently in Grants Pass, OR at Henderson’s Line-Up having the coach’s steering gear box rebuilt. This will take “about 3, maybe 4 days” and therefore our coach is parked in their yard unable to be moved during the rebuild process. So we have electricity at night but our days are free to wander and see the sights of the area.

One of the fun sites we found was the Oregon Vortex and House of Mystery in Gold Hill, OR.IMG_3060

“The Oregon Vortex and it’s associated phenomena were discovered and analyzed by John Litster in the period between 1930 & 1946. The area was known to the Indians as “The Forbidden Ground”. The first white man to note any aberration was William McCullough in 1964. This consisted solely of a ‘feeling of something wrong’ on a trail in the area.”

We were given all manner of explanations for the strange  events and reactions, but as the guide says, “nobody knows why”!

One of the “demonstrations” is for 2 people (in this case, Bill and I) stand on a perfectly level board, which we verified with a level. Note in the upper picture Bill is definitely taller than me (5’8” as opposed to my 5’3”). But in the lower picture I appear to have grown taller and Bill appears to be shorter………hmmm!!! Yet we were standing on a level surface, just changed places.

Then we entered the House of Mystery…….!!!! It is very difficult to maintain your balance so you have to hold on to the handrails or you just may fall!!!

IMG_3069                   There is only one level surface in this house………..

….and our guide is standing on it! Note how she appears to be leaning to her left.

IMG_3075 Bill is across the floor from her and appears to be leaning to his right……….again, hmmmm!!!

My dear husband, who cannot stand anything crooked, tried to straighten up the house.

IMG_3086 As you can see he did not succeed!! Note the planks in the foreground…..they are perfectly level. So you can see how crooked this house really is.

It was a fun day and even with all the explanations we still don’t have any idea why all the strange things happen in that area!!!

Tomorrow we are off to Crater Lake National Park.

Just Us Kids……. playing tourist!
