We continued northward on the Alaska Highway……

Caught sight of this fellow just strolling along the road!

                                 Finally…………..!!!!!

We fueled up and spent the night in a truck stop in Tok.

We are noticing more and more log buildings with sod roofs. I’m sure it helps with the heat in the summer……but mowing your roof  has to be a real challenge!!

Just out of Tok we ran into smoke!!! We were able to continue with the advisory to keep lights on and be cautious!!! And yes, we were very alert and cautious!!!!

IMG_4916

At last count there are 99 wildfires burning in Alaska at this time.

IMG_4919

We made it through the worst of the smoke only to cross this river………….

IMG_4928

                                  Yep, that’s ice………lots of ice!!!

Onward into Delta Junction and the end of the Alaska Highway!!! We are now on Alaska Hwy. 2 aka the Richardson Hwy.

We read in our Milepost that Rika’s Roadhouse “has the best food in Alaska”, so we decided to stop for a good breakfast!!!

IMG_4945

It was a great historical place to stop but the “best food” turned out to be sweet rolls and coffee!!! Disappointing!!!

IMG_4958 This was one of many roadhouses along the road to the gold fields where folks got a room and a hot meal. I guess they have done away with the hot meal part!!!!

IMG_4952

We spent some time walking around checking out all the old buildings.

IMG_4956

As you can see, another sod covered roof!!!

IMG_4948

An old barn……….

IMG_4953

A stove in the old blacksmith shop……

IMG_4963

Hmm….why is the safe out in the woods?

IMG_4973

Aha…we found the “facilities” out in the woods !!!

IMG_4976

Wild prairie roses are everywhere……….!!!

IMG_4979

OK, back into the coach and off to North Pole and Fairbanks. But that will be next time……….!!!

Note: We now have 21 hours of daylight!!!!

Just us kids…..swatting mosquitoes in Alaska!!!
