Not much news from here lately…………….the weather has been hot and very little rain. We are still working with the USACE here in Clarkston, WA and my knee is healing nicely.
What with all the physical therapy and working, we have not had much time to do any sight-seeing in the area, we had hoped to visit some of the same places we visited and to see some of the places we missed when we lived here in 2000 to 2004. But we have had to stay pretty close to home and the ice bags.
This is a very historical area…….Lewis and Clark spent time here with the Nez Perce Indians on their way westward as well as on the return trip east.
The Nez Perce taught the Corps of Discovery how to make dug out canoes with fire in which they completed their journey down the Snake River to the Columbia River and finally to the Pacific Ocean.
They spent the winter near present day Astoria, OR at Fort Clatsop where they traded with the local Indians there and stored salt (from the ocean) to be used to preserve meat for the trip back home again.
Replica of Fort Clatsop is open to the public and is a great place to see first hand how these brave people lived.
They had left their horses here with the Nez Perce and on their return trip eastward, stayed with the Nez Perce and retrieved their horses for the overland trip home.
In this area there are many Nez Perce sites to visit as well as a great Nez Perce museum just east of Lewiston, ID. If you are ever in the area take time to enjoy the beauty and history of North Central Idaho.

I loved visiting Fort Clatsop. I know we went with someone on motorcycle, was it with you guys? That's been quite a number of years ago.
How you doing in the heat?
