Today I began the procedure for a total right knee replacement. Actually, it started with a trip to the orthopedist on Monday as I was in ever increasing pain and walking was becoming excruciating! At that time the preliminary X-rays show the bad news…….there is no cartilage left and the knee is bone on bone!!! Hence…….pain!
I got a steroid shot to ease the pain temporarily, and today there were more X-rays and and an MRI to be sent to Memphis, TN, where they will make the new knee from the images. That will take about 21 days, then it is into the hospital for the surgery.
I have been talking to friends who have had this procedure and they all assure me that “it’s a piece of cake” as one friend put it!!! At this point I just want the pain to go away, and then I will be a very, very happy camper!!!
Bill has volunteered to be my nursemaid and “slave” during my recovery.I really hope he knows what he has gotten himself into as I know how really crabby I get when I am forced to stay down and inactive. I won’t be able to drive for a while either………….OMG, how will I get to every RVer’s favorite store, Walmart??
Will keep you informed as to my progress and Bill’s “sanity” along the way!

Kay, where will the surgery be done at? I bet you'll recover quickly. Keep us updated!
Kay - You will be thanking God in Heaven above after you have this surgery done. (Then wonder how you lived with the pain for so long). I have a good friend who had both her knees done (yes, at the same time! Can you imagine?) Within a couple short months later she went on a hiking tour across Scotland and hasn't looked back since!
Kay, it's not a piece of cake. However, it is definitely worth it. I had my surgery six weeks ago. I'm now trying to recover from it and get back on my surfboard. I'm shooting for late July. I still have a long way to go in terms of recovery.
You will be glad you did it.
Who am I? Well, I found your blog on a knee replacement site that showed links to both of our blogs.
Good luck! You'll be fine!
