Yesterday (Tuesday) we left Hondo, TX and headed west.........planning to boondock (for you non-RVers, that's overnighting without electric, water or sewer hook ups) along the road one night and arrive in El Paso, TX on Wednesday!!! Well the best laid plans as they say........!
About 100 miles out the Hondo winds started to blow in 50-60 mph gusts, sideways!!! That's when the awning over the door decides it wants to fly with the wind!! So every couple of miles we had to stop and re-roll the blasted thing to keep it from ripping off completely!
Fighting that was bad enough, but then it started to rain!!! Now mind you, all of Texas has been in a drought condition for 2 years and it decides to end on the same day that we hit the road!!!!
So now the rain turns to SNOW, yes, snow out in arid west Texas!!! We continued on as there are not many places to stay over on US 90 and thought we would soon be out of all this crap!!! Wrong, we drove through 3 snowstorms, then rain then snow again!!! However the wind did lessen so holding it on the road was not as difficult, but the temp is constantly dropping!!!! By the time we got out of all the crappy weather we were only a 100 miles from El Paso, so we drove on in to American RV Campground last night!!!
This morning the temp is 29 degrees, but the sun is shining!!!!!! We are having a minor problem fixed here at Camping World on Thursday and leaving for Benson after they are done, so we should be in either Thurday night or Friday at the latest. Hopefully this cold snap will be gone by then too!!!!
