All year we plan for Christmas and in just a few short days, it’s over!!! We had a wonderful time with all our RV friends here at Lone Star Corral in Hondo, TX. It can never replace Christmas with our kids, all the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, but we make the best of it!! At least we are warm and dry, not covered in snow as all of the northern part of the US is right now!!
At Lone Star we started the festivities with a concert by all the students from D’Hanis Elementary School, followed by our delivery of gifts and goodies to the school on December 17th as I posted in “A Bug’s Christmas”.
To celebrate my birthday and Bill’s birthday we had a great dinner with our friends, Jane and Jerry, and Mike and Elaine, at Rocky’s Grill in Devine, TX. Rocky is a former big city chef who came back home to Devine and opened the greatest restaurant ever.
On December 21st we made a trip into San Antonio for some shopping and to pick up Bill’s Christmas present, a new pair of glasses!
The next day we participated in the delivery of food and gifts to a couple of needy families in the area. Really makes you feel grateful for what you have when you see how little these families have and still smile!!! This project as well as the school project are ongoing at Lone Star Corral, the planning and preparation takes place all year long. We feel very privileged to be able to assist in any way we can.
Christmas Eve was celebrated in the LSC clubhouse with about 115 of our closest friends. We dined
on chili and cornbread muffins, then exchanged gifts in a “Round-Robin” gift exchange, which meant you can steal a gift you like better than the one you chose. We had a great time and there was a lot of ‘stealing’ going one that night!!
Christmas Day dawned clear and bright here in South Texas. Everyone had put up decorations, some just a few and some way over the top!!! Peggy, around the corner from us, took the prize again this year for the best decorations. Dinner was served at 1:00 in the decorated clubhouse: Cornish Game Hen, ham, mashed red potatoes, green beans with almonds, veggie medley, sweet potatoes with apple, cranberries, and desserts of all kinds!! All prepared and served by Fay and her small kitchen crew!!! It was absolutely fantastic, all served hot, family style to 115 people!!! Good job, Fay!!!
Now Christmas is over for another year and the dieting begins!!! It was a good holiday here with our friends and We hope y’all a wonderful Christmas too!!
Now on to the New Year….2011!!!
Just Us Kids…..getting ready for another year of adventures.
