Texas Canyon in Arizona

Everyone here at Saquaro SKP Park is busy getting ready for Christmas and we are no exception. We have the decorations and lights up inside and outside of the coach, and are busy admiring our neighbor's decor!!!

Saturday we piled all the camera gear and a few snacks in the car, headed up into Texas Canyon to "shoot" the many interesting rock formations in the canyon. Texas Canyon is the last mountain pass on I10 from the east before dropping down into Benson, AZ and is heavily traveled by cars, RV's and of course, trucks!!!! As we headed up the pass westward we came upon lots and lots of emergency vehicles and the burned out remains of a semi trailer!!!! Which of course stopped all westward traffic, both lanes, for a least 8-10 miles!!!!! We were very happy to be headed the other way, however we had planned to return home on that same stretch after taking our pix and eating our snacks.

We made a few stops along the way up but near the summit we stopped, along with many stranded motorists, at the DQ to have a Blizzard and check the map for alternate routes. Then took off exploring............! We managed to avoid all of the freeway confusion and had a great time. We have a new camera for Bill to use as well as my trusty Canon so we have a lot of pictures, some of which I will share with you.

Our little "Suzy" knows all the good places to stop!!!!

Our neighbors have a bird feeder and it is frequented by cactus wrens, finches, and quail, as well as the occasional rabbit!

This is how a curve-bill thrasher gets food out of a feeder meant for much smaller birds! He knocks the seeds out then goes down on the ground to feed on them. Pretty clever!!
