Rain, Rain, Go Away

Greetings from Wheeler NWR in Decatur, AL!

When we arrived it was sooo hot that it was hard to be outside for very long at all, so we spent most of our time in the A/C at home or in the car, or at the Visitor's Center at work.

But that all changed when the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay finally got up to northern Alabama!!! We didn't have all the wind but we sure got the rain.........we were trying to figure out how to put pontoons on the coach, just in case!!! Everyone here was happy to see the rain as it has been quite dry, the corn and soybeans needed the moisture, but 5-gallon buckets filled in a hour??? Well, not quite that bad, but there was water standing everywhere as the storm drains couldn't keep up.

We were on one of the many roads throughout the refuge yesterday and had to get around a farm truck that parked in the middle of the narrow road, so we decided to try and go around on the edge of the cornfield!!! Big mistake..........we sunk into the mud immediately and had to be towed out. An hour later, after we had called for help and were back on firm ground again, the farmer returned to his truck and drove away!!! Go figure!!!!

But it has passed on and we just have clouds with the forecast calling for sun and heat again tomorrow.
